OSHA has released its semiannual regulatory agenda for 2012. The updated agenda identifies four final rules and 10 proposed rules that are anticipated to move through the rulemaking stages over the next 6 – 12-month period.

Some of the rules at the Final Rulemaking stage include:

  • Confined Spaces in Construction — Next action will be a Final Rule projected for July 2013
  • Electric Power Transmission and Distribution; Electrical Protective Equipment — Next action will be a Final Rule projected for March 2013
  • Walking Working Surfaces and Personal Fall Protection Systems (Slips, Trips, and Fall Prevention) — Next action will be a Final Rule projected for August 2013
  • Occupational Injury and Illness Recording and Reporting Requirements – NAICS Update and Reporting Revisions — Next action will be a final action projected for May 2013

The rules at the Proposed Rulemaking stage include the following:

  • Occupational Exposure to Crystalline Silica — Next action will be Notice of Proposed Rulemaking projected for May 2013
  • Occupational Exposure to Beryllium — Next action will be Notice of Proposed Rulemaking projected for July 2013
  • Bloodborne Pathogens — Next action will be end review and issue findings projected for May 2013
  •  Improve Tracking of Workplace Injuries and Illnesses — Next action will be Notice of Proposed Rulemaking projected for May 2013
  • Revising the Underground Construction and Demolition Standards to make the Cranes and Derricks in Construction Rule applicable to those activities — Next action will be a Final Rule projected for March 2013
  • Standards Improvement Project IV — Next action will be end of comment period for Notice of Proposed Rulemaking projected for February 2013
  • Cranes and Derricks in Construction: Revision to Digger Derricks’ Requirements — Next action will be a final action projected for February 2013
  • Consensus Standard Update – Signage — Next action will be a Direct Final Rule projected for April 2013
  • Revocation of Periodic Records — Next action will be a Direct Final Rule projected for March 2013
  • Approved State Plans for Occupational Safety and Health — Next action will be a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking projected for June 2013
